INSTRUCTIONS 

1. The Deal

• Dealer deals 6 cards to each player.

• Each player looks at their 6 cards and discards 2 into "the crib" — a separate hand that belongs to the dealer but isn't seen until later. This leaves each player with 4 cards.

• Non-dealer cuts the deck; dealer flips the top card — this is the starter card. If it's a Jack, dealer scores 2 points immediately ("his heels").

2. The Play (pegging)

• Non-dealer plays a card face up, announcing the running count. Dealer plays a card, adding to the count, and so on, alternating.

• The count can never exceed 31. If you can't play without going over, you say "go" and your opponent keeps playing (or pegs 1 for the go).

• Score points during play for:

• 15 — reaching a count of 15 → 2 points

• 31 — reaching exactly 31 → 2 points

• Pairs — matching rank as last card played → 2 points (3 of a kind = 6, 4 of a kind = 12)

• Runs — 3+ consecutive ranks played in a row (any order) → 1 point per card

• Go — last player able to play → 1 point (2 if you hit exactly 31)

• Once all cards are played, hands are reset for scoring.

3. The Show (counting hands)

• Non-dealer counts first, then dealer, then dealer counts the crib (using the starter card with each hand/the crib).

• Score combinations:

• 15s — any combination of cards totaling 15 → 2 points each

• Pairs → 2 points

• Runs — 3+ consecutive cards → 1 point per card

• Flush — 4 cards in hand same suit → 4 points (5 if starter matches too); crib needs all 5 to match

• Nobs — Jack in hand matching starter's suit → 1 point

4. Winning

• First to 121 points wins (some boards go to 61). Deal alternates each round.
